Why I moved from WordPress to Substack
After many years, it was time say goodbye to WordPress and move on
I started with WordPress when it was first released, and I remember loving it. It was my favorite blogging software and platform for many years. But recently, I realized I’d had enough of it and needed to get off WordPress permanently.
What changed my mind?
Two main reasons:
The block editor.
WordPress has become an overcomplicated mess.
In an earlier post, I barked about the block editor, but I recently started writing again for this blog, and I note that it hasn’t gotten any better. I found myself slowed down and annoyed repeatedly while trying to use it.
Compare, for example, writing and editing a post here on Substack with using WordPress’ block editor. The Substack editor stays out of my way at the top of the screen, it’s there if I need it, but it never inserts itself into my awareness when I’m writing. The WordPress block editor jumps around from block to block with me and constantly gets in the way.
